PALANDRI WINERY...FROM THE BEGINNING

In its first vintage in 2000, the Palandri Winery crushed 711 tonnes. This grew to a crush of 2,500 tonnes in 2001 and 3,518 tonnes in 2003. The production and barrel maturation facilities are now capable of processing 4,500 tonnes of fruit annually.

The winery has been specifically designed for small batch processing. This creates the opportunity to isolate the best fruit that can be obtained and then turn it into very special wines. Complementing the stainless steel fermentation and storage facilities is a state-of-the-art wood maturation cellar, housed in a specially designed sealed and insulated area of the winery in which temperature and humidity are controlled.

The foundation of the maturation cellar has been built around a combination of  American Oak and French Oak barrels.

VINTAGE 2010, AN UPDATE FROM THE WINEMAKER

The 2010 vintage is now over and it looks like another good year.  Both the Frankland River and Margaret River regions have experienced very favourable weather conditions for grape growing and especially ripening.

The weather in spring was cool with even flowering and fruit set with lower crop yields but this did have a positive effect on grape quality as the vine has less fruit to ripen intensifying flavours in the berries

The ripening period in January through March was  mild to warm.  The temperature for the ripening period stayed around an average  20-28 degress celcius.  These ideal conditions allowed the grapes to ripen evenly with great natural acid, tannin and intense colour.

The whites have shown lifted varietal flavours with intense natural acidity. The standout will be Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc which has seen tropical notes dominate the palate and nose. The SSB and classic blends this year will show excellent varietal characters with low alcohol.

Quality in the reds is also looking excellent  showing good varietal flavour the tannins it looks like we are in for some fantastic wines from 2010 vintage.  A very Bordeaux style vintage.
