2012 Vintage Report

The 2012 vintage is in and what a great vintage!

Both the Frankland River and Margaret River regions have experienced excellent ripening and weather conditions for grape growing with very little disease pressure seen in the vineyard.

The weather in spring saw cool, even flowering and fruit set with good crop yields. This had a positive effect on grape quality with good vineyard health and balance.

The ripening period in January, February and March was great with long periods of mild weather. The conditions allowed the grapes to ripen evenly with good acid, sugars, tannin and intense colour making the 2012 wines which are balanced and elegant.

The whites have shown lifted varietal flavours with very nice intense natural acidity. The standout will be Chardonnay which has seen tropical/melon notes dominate the palate and nose. The Sauvignon Blanc andclassic white blends this year show excellent varietal characters with excellent acid balance.

Quality in the reds is also good with the Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon showing exceptional varietal flavour with a solid tannin structure and finesse. The Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon is a standout with intensity and structure. Our Shiraz from the Frankland River vineyard shows intense red berry flavours and colour.

The 2012 Vintage is another great vintage and will produce excellent premium wines from 3 Oceans.
