2014 Vintage Report

All the grapes are in and 2014 is looking like another exceptional year for the Margaret River and Frankland River regions of Western Australia

Excellent winter rainfall provided a great start this year followed by a warm spring with very little rain.

During the ripening period the nights were cool with mild days which allowed the white grapes to hold their natural acidity but also flavours developed earlier. The resulting aromatic Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon varieties show intense varietal flavours and natural citrus acidity. Chardonnay also has a superb line of natural acidity balanced with a flavour profile ranging from citrus, nectarine to summer peach.

With the milder conditions during the day and cooler to chilled night time temperatures being recorded during ripening this was perfect for Reds enabling full physiological development especially in Cabernet Sauvignon concentrating its flavour spectrum and in softening tannin levels naturally. Shiraz also shows great intensity with excellent colour with great tannin structure.

The 2014 vintage is looking one of the best vintages and will be up there with some of the best.

2014 one to keep an eye out to add to the cellar in the future.
